Editor:
From this video I have learnt that you need to be good at story telling to be a video editor. You also need to know what to take away from your editing, what is needed and what isn't needed. You also need to be a good visualiser which means visualising what your final product will look like and if your completely happy with the outcome. By knowing all the tools on the software used for editing you can, get the outcome you desire by knowing what tools you have and how to use them. You also need to be good at problem solving, if a problem occurs you need to know how to solve i and how much it will effect your project, by losing time to solve the issue it will effect your project by putting you behind schedule.
Lighting:
From this Video I have learnt cross- lighting which is used when you have two actors face to face, this acts as a back light for one actor and by doing the same on the other actor. By having the light faced upwards towards the ceiling it creates a dark look on the actors face. By having the light on the short side of the actors face it creates a contrast on the actors face. Melea Anderson talks about working collaboratively and alongside others within being a lighting technician. She was hired by media services which allowed her to learn the lighting console. She didn't have the formal training that others did but that didn't stop her as she was motivated.
Sound:
From this video I have learnt that the sound boom should be positioned above slightly in front of the actor, and at a 45 degree angle off the actors reachable distance. When using a wireless lavalier mic it is clipped onto clothes or attached to the body above the heart level on the actor's chest. Lavalier mic's are sometimes placed upside down which prevents popping breath. From this video I have learnt that you need to invest in good audio to be a good sound designer. By investing in audio equipment it will help the audio to be clearer which creates a more realistic effect on the viewers. Good audio is the key to cinematic films as they get lost in the story. Sound is also used to tell stories which keep the viewers interested. EQ is used to clear the vocals which makes it less 'hummed'.
Camera:
From this video Aaron Gordon who studied at UAF talks about how he came into being a camera operator. He talks about how he various jobs to experience working with different types of camera and equipment. He joined many film clubs that allowed him to practice his camera skills. Gordon says that he recommends gaining experience in various places as it allows you to experience working with different types of camera and equipment which allows you to find out what aspect of camera work you wish to go into.
